Description

This lot features the news of India’s leading atom scientist, Dr. Homi J. Bhabha’s death. The jetliner carrying Dr. Bhabha from Bombay to New York crashed into Mont Blanc, Geneva on a bitterly cold morning. The severity of crash was such that there were no survivors, and the wreckage rapidly sank into 15 ft of snow within hours.

Dr. Bhabha left a lasting legacy in Indian nuclear research endeavours. His sudden death sparked off speculations about the crash being a conspiracy to thwart the rapid progress of India’s nuclear programmes. These claims were never substantiated, but Dr. Bhabha has been etched into public memory ever since.
