Description
This is Bagh Phulkari, which is made and presented to the bride by the bridegroom side. Embroidered on dark red or brown Khaddar cloth (hand spun and hand woven) with creamish white and golden yellow silk threads. It symbolizes happiness and fertility. The entire field is embroidered with stylized flower motifs. The two sides and pallus have simple designs. Both pallus have traditional floral patterns.

This is about 50 years old Barfi Bagh Phulkari from Pakistan. In Bagh, the entire fabric is covered with dense embroidery so that the base cloth of garment is not visible. Barfi which is a trditional sweet , is a popular motif of Bagh embroidery. The entire fabric is embroidered in offwhite and golden orange color with thin bands of emerald green to demarket various shapes. The entire embroidery is constituted of repeatation of Barfi motif. The borders are plain; the body and pallu are covered with Lahariya patterns, seperated by a band of triangles. In between border and body one side a blue and on other side a blue-magenta stripe is added as Najarbatto, a traditional symbol to awort the evel eye.
